Much to give thanks for

Whew!  We had quite a Thanksgiving weekend here!

On Thursday we had Bubbe over for a visit and she brought the turkey!  We decided not to turn the holiday into a tribute to gluttony, so we just had a lovely turkey breast that she had cooked to perfection.  It was just the right size for the meal, and a little left over for a couple of lunch boxes the next day.

And the cranberry sauce she made – very yummy!  I’ve even hoarded some to top the Brie en Croute I’ve got stashed in the freezer to pull out when I need to impress guests that despite our utterly chaotic appearance, we’re actually quite civilized – Halle! Come down from that chandelier!  Zanna, stop dunking those jigsaw puzzle pieces into your juice – I saw you!

Really.  Very civilized.

Then of course our new used minivan started going wonky on the way to drop off Bubbe.  Of course by the time we got it to the dealer’s service dept., it was acting all “Who me?  Mechanical difficulties?  Nah, musta been some other minivan…”

Odd thing is, it seems to go gaflooey whenever it rains….

So we toted it (not literally) to the shop, where they promptly outsourced it to another mechanic and since it’s supposed to rain in a few days, we’re hoping either that they won’t get to it until it’s raining out, or that they’ll be willing to let it sit in the rain for a day and then check it out again.

And today, the girls went into their Sunday School classroom without even looking back at me once, didn’t cry the whole time, and had loads of fun making construction paper Christmas trees.  (I didn’t have the heart to remind the teacher that the trees were actually symbols of pagan fertility rites, and not spoken of too highly in the Bible.   I wish they’d done construction paper mangers with little paper baby Jesus’s in swaddling wraps.  Ah well, I guess I’m a little too progressive.)

And Halle POOed in the Potty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is much rejoicing in the land!  Huzzah!!!

And Halle also slept the entire night IN HER OWN BED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Woot!  Woot! Woot!

So we have very much to give thanks for.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we braved the crowds at the local outlet mall and got nice Stride-Rite high-top boot shoes for the girls that had cute little blinky lights in the shape of flowers on them.  Not only was each pair $10 off the outlet price, but there was also a buy 1 get the 2nd pair 50% off!!!

We are muchly happy!
