Hugonomics – Where We’re Headed As A Global Society.

Let’s think about economics for a moment:  there are various instruments and forms of ‘value’ that are arbitrarily assigned to arbitrarily chosen symbols or objects that can be used in exchange for goods, services, trades, etc. Stocks, bonds, shiny rocks dug up out of the ground, mashed, dried, flattened and colored wisps of processed wood pulp, discs of refined metal ores, pretend ‘money’ dreamed up out of the ether of cyber networks – how is any of it significantly different from the wampum, cacao beans and grains of rice that were used as currency in past cultures?

No difference at all.  It is an artificial system, imposed because of a lack of trust and goodwill, inflicted upon us by greedy, suspicious folks with mega-issues who project their own deviousness in matters of trade, upon others and therefore insist on a form of accounting that they can keep in their sight and in their grasp.

For lack of this ‘money’, people sicken and go without medicine.

For lack of this ‘money’, people hunger, starve and die.

For lack of this ‘money’, people live in extreme poverty, exposed to the elements and left to suffer and die.

For want of this ‘money’, children are bought, sold, violated and murdered.

For want of this ‘money’, babies are injected at birth with poisons that hospitals know full well will result in injury and even death.

For want of this ‘money’, our venerated senior citizens are abused and languishing in ‘nursing’ homes, despite money having been collected for their care.

For want of this ‘money’, wars are inflicted upon far-off lands, to seize resources that make a very few people even more bloated with ‘money’ than they already are.

For want of this ‘money’, bombs are hurled, buildings collapsed, environments are irradiated and floods are unleashed, because at the end of it all, it puts more ‘money’ in the pockets of a very, very, very few people.

Some would say that “Money is the root of all evil.”  It actually isn’t.  It’s the absence of love that is the root of evil.

We’ve already seen what the use of ‘money’ has done to our world, now how about we take a look at how love, in place of ‘money’, would affect our world and our lives?

Imagine for a moment that in an instant, all the ‘money’ disappeared. In its place, hugs would be substituted.

Yes, you read that correctly – HUGS.

Hugs are now the lingua franca of finance and economics, the currency of trade, the unit of redemption for every kind of transaction under the sun.

Want a new tv? Walk into a shop and offer a hug (or a gesture of goodwill and respect, for those who are touch-averse). You walk out with a tv and both you and the shopkeeper have a warm glow in your hearts at having received a boost to your endorphins and the myriad other positive emotional, mental and physical benefits that hugs provide.

In an instant, there is no need for theft – what would a wanna-be thief do with 80 tv’s? Sell them? For what? All he’d get for them would be hugs and those are now free for the asking! So no more need for theft. Need food? A hug is the payment of choice. Even online transactions can use hug emoticons – those brighten up the screen when you see them, they’re so positive and cheery!

With all these hugs going around and bolstering the ‘economy’, folks are much more emotionally satisfied, less lonely, mentally more stable…what need for drug addiction or alcohol dependence?  No need for a war on drugs, heck – between the decrease in theft and the steady decline of addictions, and all the resultant crimes – soon the court systems won’t be as overloaded and the prisons will no longer be filling up with increasing numbers of inmates.  In fact, all those convicted of drug possession and thefts could probably be let loose, because it would be very unlikely that they’d backslide in the new ‘economy’!

No more homelessness, no more joblessness (Did you know that even now there are people who earn ‘money’ by hosting ‘cuddle parties’ and offering ‘hug therapy’?) What to study in school? Whatever brings joy to your heart! School is free in exchange for hugs!

Why not have job festivals where local vendors, artisans, practitioners, etc offer demos of what they do and offer internships to potential apprentices!  Oh look, Tony the Cheese Shop owner is looking for an apprentice to train because he’d like to retire and become a juggler! I’ll sign up for that!  After an apprenticeship has been completed, Tony can just hand over the keys to his establishment and his apprentice will now own the Cheese Shop!

Why not? It really IS that simple!

No crime, no hate, no politics for money, no holding back someone of promising skills, abilities, talents just because they can’t ‘afford’ the training or because the occupation doesn’t pay the same as the 3 other jobs a person would need to juggle to keep their family barely surviving.

Just people – happy, healthy, kind people, doing what they love, without artificial limitations holding them back from achieving their potential. Families without abuse, work environments without exploitation, a world without ‘money’.

Hugonomics – it’s where we’re headed as a Global Society, and it’s a lot closer than you might think.

Common-Sense Diplomacy

atlas-woman

Had an interesting dream last night. I was a Counter-Terrorist Diplomatic Consultant for some alphabet agency and we were meeting in a ‘situation’ room to discuss the latest hot ‘threat’ and what to do about it.  In this case, it was a Native American man that had just been released from prison that he felt he had been unjustly incarcerated in, he had incendiary devices and guns and was planning to do something at a specific location, according to intel.

So there were all these highly-educated, highly-trained (and highly-paid) agents making a plan, and the best they could come up with was getting a SWAT team down there to take the man out. (as in demised, not out on a date)

Frankly, I was gobsmacked by this ‘genius’ idea and spoke up: “Uh…did anyone even begin to consider just sending someone in, unarmed to have a talk with the fella? Giving him a good listen and letting him vent, get whatever’s bothering him off his chest? Finding out if maybe he had a legitimate grievance and working out a plan with him to address or fix it, if so?”

Nope. Never crossed their minds.

“It’s too risky!” they bleated fearfully.

Cue massive eye-roll here.

“Uh-huh, and that’s why you have me here. I’ll do it. Give me a few minutes to assemble my own team and we’ll get to work. The rest of you stay back and stay quiet, and under no circumstances is ANYONE to do anything even vaguely threatening! Got it?!”

So then I assembled my team, which seemed to consist of a racially-diverse small group of guys in superhero spandex outfits. Our newbie member was very excited about his green satin cape.

Well, the Native American was also pretty impressed by the cape and touched that we were actually trying to listen to him so he vented his heart out and my team agreed to help him address his grievances and see that true justice was done and then we invited him to join our team.  We strolled out of the building with him, strolled on by the police perimeter, amiably chatting with each other as that alphabet agency had its collective jaw hitting the ground.

Mission accomplished. 😀

Then the dream switched to another scenario.

Kitchen-Talks-Japanese-Tea-Ceremony-1

This time I was called in because our country had done something nasty to Japan and Japan had just found out about it and were planning to declare war, and our country had decided to do a pre-emptive strike. My opinion was asked on the best way to go about doing that.

As in the first part of the dream, I was absolutely stunned by this monumental show of collective idiocy.

“Uh…did anyone even begin to consider just sending someone in, unarmed to to their Embassy to have a talk with them? Give them a good listen and let them vent, get whatever’s bothering them off their chest? If they have a legitimate grievance – which in this case they do – maybe work out a plan with them to address or fix it?”

Oh, it’s too risky, it might incite them to…war…which they were already incited to…hmm.  Oh, and our country would lose face if we actually admitted we’d done something wrong, and trying to apologize would be as good as admitting we’d done something wrong, they might ask for reparations or something. The excuses for avoiding responsibility went on and on.

“Tough cookies, folks, we did wrong and we’re going to suck it up and give them a chance to vent about it and then we’re going to apologize sincerely and do our best to make it up to them!”

So I got all dressed up (no superhero spandex this time) and party-crashed a fancy shindig that was being held at the embassy with a team of unarmed diplomatic agents.  The Japanese government reps were well aware that we were there but everyone was ignoring us, no eye-contact, as if we didn’t exist.  Some agents complained to me that they couldn’t get any of the Japanese contingent to even talk to them, so how could they get anything accomplished here?

I told them that if we got angry over being cold-shouldered, or tried to push the matter, they could justify that we’d acted first to start a war (as if our original crime against them wasn’t enough already) and they were in the clear about responding with force.

“Ok, let them humiliate, embarrass, ignore and shun us to their hearts content, it might make them feel better. We’re not going to whine about it or print any retaliatory stories in the media, we’re going to take it and show sympathy and remorse for what they’re going through – we’re going to put THEIR feelings first!”  So that’s what we did, giving the Japanese ample opportunity to snicker at us being ignored.

The next day, I went back to the embassy with a couple other agents to apologize and hear the Japanese reps out. They vented quite a bit and we admitted our government had been in the wrong and asked what they wanted in the way of reparations.  They were stunned. They’d expected us to respond with threats of world war and other retaliations to pre-emptively strike at them, not us showing up apologetic and taking responsibility to make things right when we’d done wrong.

They said they wanted a public unconditional apology printed in the media, and for us to send people over to Japan to repair any damage done to their infrastructure by our actions and to pay any bills for folks that had gotten hurt.  We agreed and war was averted.

Mission accomplished.

The guys back at the alphabet agency were shocked that my plan had worked and that we’d avoided world war so “simply”.

Wow. SMH sooooo much!

Greenfolk of the Forest Dreams

green

Had a dream a few nights ago, (the night before we moved to our new apartment which has a nice little forest out back).

The green man image (the kind people put in their gardens and on doors) appeared to me, he was a dark forest green. I felt he was trying to communicate to me that I didn’t need to worry about one of my daughters’ future (she has frustration and anger issues, she’s only 9), that he had an eye on her and would try to help take care of her and he was trying to reassure me that by the time she reached adulthood, she would be just fine. I felt relieved. Then I woke up.

Forests represent safe haven to me, and I feel great longing to be in or near them. Occasionally, over the years I’ve had a number of dreams of forest folk appearing to me and offering advice and comfort, even when I was a child.

Rainbows and Sunshine and Dragons, Oh My! :D

It’s been a bit on the gloomy side here lately since Christmas (we were totally ripped off from getting to see the only full moon on Christmas for the next 19 years – thanks to the heavy-duty air pollution we frequently get around here!).

So after a break in the rain we’ve been practically floating in for the past two days, I go outside and see a RAINBOW!!! Woo-Hoo!!  So I whipped out my trusty phone, (noticed that the time was 12:33p when I turned it on to take these) and knocked out a few pics:

Ooo, aaah! Pretty, huh?

rainbow dragon 1 rainbow dragon 2

Then I noticed this bull…

 rainbow bull 1

After about a minute, I noticed that the bull had morphed into a dragon!

rainbow dragon after bull 2 rainbow dragon after bull 1

(kinda looks like the rainbow is either defining the side of its wings, or trying to lop off its tail :D)

Then I grabbed my laundry and headed off.

So that was yesterday.  Afterwards, I grabbed my handy, dandy “Pocket Guide o Spirit Animals” by Dr. Steven Farmer and looked up what bulls and dragons meant (Looking up spirit animals is sorta, kinda like the Chinese Zodiac you see on placemats in restaurants, but a bit more in-depth.  Instead of one static animal you’re associated with by way of birth year, all kinds of animals can pop up in dreams, nature, symbols, etc):

Among the highlights:

BULL – “…allow yourself to indulge in any creative projects you’ve been considering.  Your life is headed for an upturn cycle, so welcome it and enjoy it.  This is a very prosperous time for you…”

DRAGON – “Do more of the kinds of activities that bring passion into your life…You’re entering into a period of considerable prosperity.  Spend some time regularly in meditation…and you’ll receive some valuable insights and inspiration…”

This is pretty interesting, considering that I recently have been mulling over trying to slog my way through several more years of college to get a 4-year degree (after the 21 years it’s taken me to get my 2-year!) Or seeing what kind of minimum-wage receptionist job I can get, or instead, focusing more on my writing (sci-fi/fantasy) and art (right now I’m into crystal, metal & resin sculptures aka “orgonite”)  My husband is very supportive of being a patron for my art and thinks I should do that, but I was waffling between being “practical” and some mis-placed guilt over doing something I love that didn’t fit conventional definitions of being “productive” and wanting to do what I love.  I couldn’t choose and was feeling very, very clogged up (pretty much like a backed up toilet – I had way too much garbage getting in the way of the flow :D)

The way things are going lately, it seems the universe is steering me down the ‘road less traveled’ and it’s shaping up to be one heckuva ride!

Awesome! 😀
