Geeky Gift Guide 2017 – Part One

Part of the fun in attending a geek convention like Clover Con, Dragon Con or the Steampunk World’s Fair, is a tour of the vendors area and the artist’s alley/art show.  Since I don’t have a million-dollar budget to buy everything I like, I pick up vendor business cards for future reference.

Both amazon and elfster have little dashboard buttons so you can automatically add stuff from other websites to your wishlists!  Please consider adding some of these geeky merchants/artists to your wishlist for the holidays!

In some states, rates are less than half of what it actually costs to care for a child in foster care.”

Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box – March 2017 Review & Giveaway

Simply Earth Blog post pic 1

I love subscription boxes! From reading Gary Chapman’s ‘The Five Love Languages’, I know that one of my main ‘Love Languages’ is the giving and receiving of gifts, and wow, some of the subscription boxes out on the market nowadays are one heckuva gift!

Normally, I’m into the geeky, sci-fi fandom type of boxes, or even the ultra kawaii ones, but this time, I was happy to take a walk on the DIY & natural health side!

My journey began with Simply Earth’s Essential Oil Recipe Box for March 2017! ($39.99 USD per month for subscriptions, Simply Earth estimates that the value of the included items would be approx. $200 USD if purchased elsewhere individually.)

They sure pack a lot into that box!  Mine came with 5 essential oils (100% pure, therapeutic grade), a stack of recipe cards on a binder ring for putting those oils to work, a couple of small glass vials for storing any diffuser blends I whipped up, and…..drumroll please….everything I needed to make my own….SOAP!!!  That’s right, everything – molds and some melt-able soap base (a LOT of that was included, so I can make lots of soap!)

I’d never made soap before, but I see all these handmade soaps of every conceivable sort everywhere lately, and I wanted in on that – making my own, chemical-free soaps – ones that smelled exactly the way I wanted them to.  So I was VERY glad to get a chance to take a crack at churning out my own sudsy goodness!

Simply Earth blog post pic 2

But first, a little licorice interlude – I dropped some of the box’s anise oil into my diffuser necklace and the whole world was smelling like licorice! YUM!!

Simply Earth blog post pic 3

Then I got to work, melting the base (really easy!) adding the ingredients, doing a little stirring…

Simply Earth Blog post pic 4

And then a little pouring…

Simply Earth blog post pic 5

Then I needed to let it cool & harden (I popped it into the freezer and that speeded things up a bit…)

Simply Earth blog post pic 6

I popped it out of the mold – and voila! I had made my very own bar of Orange Cream Exfoliating Soap! Huzzah!! 😀

Here is my video review of this box if you’d like to watch me make the soap step-by-step!

One of my favorite things about Simply Earth (besides their awesome boxes :D) is that they donate 13% of their profits to end human trafficking!  That’s really incredible and I’m really happy about that!  Use code “SIMPLYFREE” and get first month FREE w/diffuser purchase!

Also on my list of favorite things about this awesome company, is that they are letting me host a giveaway of one of their terrific Essential Oil Recipe boxes that come with oils and all the things you need to make the main DIY item!

Just complete the entries on the Rafflecopter below and you’ll be entered into the giveaway! 😀

LUVO – Healthy Heat & Eat Meals – Mama Feed Yourself, You’re Important, Too! – Review

In a previous blog post, I mentioned the phenomenon of Post-Pregnancy Depletion that can persist for several years, even more than a decade after giving birth.

Sadly, the majority of moms neglect to take proper care of themselves, while wearing themselves out to the bone taking care of their family!  We grab kid-chewed leftovers or whatever’s available within reach that our significant others haven’t already devoured, and stuff it in our mouths, or we go for the keep-us-going junkfood so we can be at least minimally functional, while we further starve ourselves of nutrition, because who’s got time to cook a nice gourmet meal for mama? Certainly not mama!

Well guess what? Someone’s got the time, after all: LUVO!

These two were my favorites: Orange Mango Chicken & Red Wine Braised Beef and Polenta!
These two were my favorites: Orange Mango Chicken & Red Wine Braised Beef and Polenta!
“Luvo [loo- vō] has Latin roots, and it loosely means to give aid or strength to accomplish a purpose. To us, Luvo is a person who takes care of themselves so they can in turn, care for others. Luvo is a movement that sparks the belief that leading a healthy lifestyles creates your best self and inspires the world around you.”
.
You might have seen LUVO meals in your grocery’s frozen food section lately, as you were shopping for your family.  Mama, it’s time to do some shopping for YOU! 😀
.
LUVO meals are heat and eat meals that are filled with tasty, natural and healthy ingredients.  While they’ll certainly be a treat for someone with a refined palate, they might not match a junk-food fan’s taste profile. You can actually taste the spices and herbs that are used for seasonings.  They aren’t over-laden with salt or other shelf-preserving ingredients. And best of all – they are EASY to prepare!  Toss one in the oven and a relatively short time later, you’ve got something yummy that’s not going to deepen your nutritional deficit.

You NEED healthy food, mama, and since no one’s likely going to be cooking it for you (including yourself if you’re like a majority of (sorry, it’s got to be said!) self-neglecting mamas, this is as close as you’re going to be getting to having a chef prepare tasty, healthy, chock-full-of-nutrition meals for you on demand, unless you actually do have a chef on your household staff.
