Crunchy Ice Cream - YAY!

November 19th, 2008 by Lara

It’s very interesting, but most of the comments I’ve received are coming from a website that sells survival gear and freeze-dried foods.

What’s interesting about it, is that I happen to like freeze-dried foods - specifically, freeze-dried ice-cream!

What’s not to love about ice-cream that doesn’t melt :)  It won’t drip on my books, or keyboard, and if I have to answer the twins’ loud calls of nature, I don’t come back to find my treat a sodden puddled mess in the bowl.

The best prices I’ve found so far are at www.vitacost.com

but hold on a sec, pardner - in addition to their already extremely discounted prices, how about an additional 10% off?

First of all, you’ll need to visit my fave, www.ebates.com

If you don’t have an account, please sign up for one and give

dearjunie@yahoo.com as the email referring you -

it’s free, and we’ll both get a credit for $5.

Then do a search for the vitacost store.  You’ll see ebates gives 5% cashback.  Click their link for vitacost and a new window will open for vitacost, which you can shop from.

Then, at checkout, open a new browser page and check out www.retailmenot.com and do a search for discount codes for www.vitacost.com .  They usually have a 5% discount one.

A total of 10% in discounts/cashback!

Now about the Mountain House brand of freeze-dried foods:

Anything sold in a pouch is fine, but their CANNED stuff should be avoided as they use pthalates and Bisphenol-A in their cans.  I emailed Mountain House directly to check their packaging.

I’ve also called Vitacost to let them know and they said they will investigate this, also.

But the pouch stuff is ok - including ICE CREAM!!!  YAY!!

It’s the same stuff as the “Astronaut Ice-Cream”, but cheaper.

Gwah dat?

October 25th, 2008 by Lara

Zanna  has now learned how to say “What’s that?” and point to something.  Of course it sounds more like “Gwah dat?” but the meaning is still very clear.

Halle has also discovered how to stack her oversize blocks together!   I’m so proud of my babies’ progress!

I’m trying to read to them as much as I can.  They seem to prefer rhyming text with colorful pictures.  We’re signed up with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which sends 2 copies of a free book once a month to them.  We signed each of them up separately, so they each get their own copy of the same book.

Here’s the link:

http://dollysimaginationlibrary.com/firsttime.php

So far, we’ve received “The Little Engine That Could” and “Raindrop, Plop!”  The girls are wild over the raindrop book!  They love when I count the objects, and ask them to find the doggie in each picture.  They also like pointing to different objects and getting me to tell them what it is.

I also made swedish meatballs for them using ground turkey, which they liked, so hopefully the tryptophan in the turkey will help Halle sleep better.

The Holistic Mom’s Network email group also recommended a book, “The Happiest Toddler on the Block” and whitenoise cds or machines, so we’ll try them one-by-one and see if we can get our littlest insomniac settled down.

I’ll keep ya posted.
